Number of Persons Employed
The number of persons employed (as measured by the Household Survey) in Placer County increased 1.5% (2,280 persons) in 2012, after decreasing 0.19% (300 persons) in 2011. The forecast for 2013, based on actual data through December, 2012, is for a 1.2% (1,860 person) increase.

The annual Unemployment Rate in Placer County was 9.5% in 2012, down from the 10.8% rate in 2011. The forecast for 2013, based on actual data through December, 2012, is for a lower 8.6%.

Taxable Sales

Taxable Sales, all Outlets for Placer County in 2010, the last full year of reported data, increased 3.8% ($220.0 million) to $6.02 billion, compared to the 2009 decline 12.6% ($840. million) rate. The forecast for 2011, based on actual data through the 3rd quarter of 2011, is for a 8.0% ($480. million) increase, followed by a 5.2% increase in 2012 and another 5.2% increase in 2013.

Building Permits
Residential Building Permits (total units) in Placer County increased 56.4% (472 permits) in 2012, compared to a decline of 27.7% (320 units) in 2011 to 837 permits for the year. The forecast for 2013, using actual data through December, 2012, is expected to decline 15.9% to 1,101 permits issued.
